It is a famous island village in a land with strange geographical features. It has clean water and broad sands. There is a natural park with a path up the mountain and historic spots such as Wonsanseong (castle) and Bongsudae (beacon mound). The mountain has Jangan-sa, a 1000-year-old Buddhist temple, founded by Wunmyeong-seonsa during the Shilla dynasty period. From the pavilion, it provides a great view of Euseongpo village (Hoeryongpo village). The shooting spot of 'Gaeul-donghwa of KBS’ was around this region. Yonggung-hyanggyo (local school) is another good place to visit. It was founded in the 7th year of King Taejo of the Joseon Dynasty. It enshrines 27 people and is also used as a youth training center. There are Muiseodang (local school) founded in the 36th year of King Sukjong of the Joseon Dynasty and a 500 year old nettle tree Hwangmokgeun (natural monument No. 400), which pays tax in Geumnam-ri.

Gaoshil Subyeon Park

Has a great view of the nature island in the reservoir and the 100-year-old pine trees that grow naturally in it. The origin and legend are as follows : Gaoshil was named for these five beauties. Most of the trees withered and died and only 3 trees survived. It was designated as a model park of the government national park plan and developed since 1999. The renovations are planned to be complete by 2001. The reservoir was reclaimed and settled by Lee Gyeongbaek after he moved from Shinpung-ri, Jibo-myeon in 1549. A dragon-shaped rock was found while digging a pond, and called ‘Yongbawi’ (dragon rock). Local legend has it that a traveler was resting on the rock and chiseled a stone to carve a poem, and blood came out. The traveler ran away and the blood dribbled into the pond. The young people in the village suddenly died after this. An old man broke the rock with a big hammer one night and the series of misfortunes stopped. This rock was buried during the extension work in 1973 and has yet to be recovered.

Mt. Heukeung , Mt. Bongdeok

This strange looking mountain resembles a black hawk sitting down with its wings spread. The Heukeung-sanseong (castle) around the mountain is built from stone and earth, composed of Naeseong and Ikseong. It is also called Heukeungseong and Bongdeok-sanseong. It is considered to be a castle dating back to the tribal country period based on the earthenware found there. A tree that was sacred to a tutelary deity is located on the summit and a promenade to the summit lies through a well, grave, Baekjeon-ri Seokshil-gobun (grave) and Euchung-sa (Buddhist temple) land. Seoak-sa (Buddhist temple) is located on Bongdeok Mountain and the land for the beacon mound still remains. The new millennium ceremony was held on the summit on January 1,2000.

Lotus Flower Park

It provides a great view of lotus in July and August. It is located along national road No. 34 (Dangjin – Yeongdeok). The Santaek rest area is located on the opposite side.

Yecheon Star Observatory

  • Main Observatory : A reflecting telescope for research purpose, 508mm (20 inches) in diameter. It provides the function of both Newton type with f/5 focus ratio and Cassegrain type telescopes at the same time, which can be selected depending on the object under observation.
  • Auxiliary observatory : It is equipped with 4 non-rigid type (Hα, for photographing sunspots and other objects) sun telescopes. Reflection based on the built-in GPS system – It is capable of both diurnal and nocturnal observation using various auxiliary telescopes, such as reflection-refraction telescope and refracting telescope, and so on.
  • Astronomical body projection room : This is a space movie theater equipped with a digital astronomical projector and video projector.
  • Exhibition site and hall : Photos, videos, and meteoric stones from the space are exhibited along with appropriate explanation on the space and stars.
  • Accommodation facilities : It has the accommodation facilities with a holding capacity of approximately 100 persons. 2 two-day education programs on the space are available along with the accommodation facilities (reservations are required).

Seonmongdae

It is a pavilion founded in 1563 by Wuam Lee Yeoldo, the eldest grandson of Twaegye Lee Hwang. Lee Hwang wrote the three letters of 'Seon-mong-dae'. The autographs of respected scholars of those days such as Tawegye Lee Hwang, Yakpo Jeong Tak, Seoae Ryu Seongryong, Kim Sangheon and Lee Deokhyeong are on exhibit. It has a great view of the sands of Naeseongcheon in Daewi and the old pine trees provide a cool summer resort and the promenades for the rest of a year. Also located there are 'Seodang-maeul' (village) with a sandy river and pinewoods, 'Yeongan-isi-byeoljwagong-jongtaek' (an old house of the Yeonan Lee family), Jeongchung-sa (Buddhist temple) with the remains of Yakpo Jeong Tak, a famous minister under King Seonjo, and Dojeong-seowon (a memorial hall).

Dumei Mountain Villa

  • Located on the ridge 750m high of Mt. Sobaek close to highway linking Yechen to Danyang, the place is suitable for summer resort with the cool valley stream. In winter, lodgers can enjoy beautiful landscape of snow-covered Baekdudagan (mountains) and the Yecheon hot springs are located within a 30 minute trip. It takes 25 minutes by car from Yecheon to the direction of Danyang.
  • Yecheon→ It is located on 750m above the sea, adjacent to Danyang local road. It is a 25 minute drive.

MT.Hakga Urea National Forrest

The Hakga Mountain (meaning a red-crowned crane) is named after its appearance. It is one of the famous mountains in northern Gyeongsang-bukdo, and has a great view of Yecheon, Andong and Yeongju from its 882m high summit.

Samgang Tavern

How to get here : From Yecheon-eup through the Pungyang-myeon office toward Mungyeong and Yeongsun, before crossing the Yeongpung-gyo (bridge) 4km to right, the Bus departs 4 times daily.

Sam River is the place where the Naeseongcheon, Geumcheon and Nakdong Rivers join. It has a great view, clean water and broad sands. It used to be a gate to Seoul. Travelers had to cross the Sam River by ferry before continuing to Mungyeong-saejae (ridge). The last inn along the 700 ri long Nakdong River is located under a 500 year old pagoda tree. Samgang Hall (cultural assets No. 204) is composed of a lecture room and a hall, which was founded by Jeong Yunmok in 1620 (the 20th year of King Gwanghaegun) and 4 Chinese letters () are written on a tablet.

Mihocheon Amusement Park

How to get here : City buses are run 10 times from Yecheon-eup. – It takes 25 minutes by bus. It is a 15-minute drive by car.

Seoksongryeong

Seoksongryeong
Location : Seokpyeong village, Cheonhyang-ri, Gamcheon-myeon
How to get here : This place is accessible from Yecheon IC, Yeongju IC, and Punggi IC if you use Jungang Expressway. It is 8 km from Yecheon-eup to Deokyulsam Junction of Gamcheon-myeon. The hot springs can be accessed by local road no. 931. Use Gyeongbu railroad if you want to take a train.
