  [초록] : We can not read even a page of The Great Gatsby without being aware that we have a little jewel of a novel, nicely shaped and polished with a perfection of craftmanship which gives each page and each paragraph into a contribution to the whole. It is, as T. S. Eliot said, the first great step that American fiction has taken since Henry James. Most critics of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel, The Great Gatsby tend to agree that the main theme of this work is the American dream and a fine record of the corrupt society of the twenties. And some praise its excellent from and structure, others its style and impressive uses of symbols./ But I feel that one more word should be said, above all these critical terms, for The Great Gatsby deserves to be called 󰡒Great󰡓 in the point of its tragic characters. Tragic effects of The Great Gatsby must be studied still further in order to cover the missing faults of Gatsby's criticism./ There happen the three deaths just as a series of accidents in The Great Gatsby. The meaning of them is mostly out of our regards. The chain deaths can not be just a solution to the complex stories of the five a affairs. If the deaths did not have any meaning the work would be a simple melodrama./ The most tragic effects lie, of course, in the death which is not inescapable by Gatsby. He willingly goes under the burden of responsibility for killing Myrtle in the accident, which is caused by Daisy's careless drive of the Gatsby's yellow car. He pretends to drive the very yellow car to protect Daisy from any possible damage. For Daisy is his incarnation of pure dream. The greatness of Gatsby is here in his attitude of martyrdom believes in his achievement of dream./ Gatsby and the first death, Myrtle stand side by side in the point that they are both the pursuer of dreams. In case of Myrtle to participate in the upper class is her persistent dream by means of having sex affairs with Tom, who represents wealth and physical excellence./ Wilson, the very killer of Gatsby under the misguide of Tom, is, however, on Gatsby's side because of this unawareness of the surrounding forces and innocent behaviors./ The Great Gatsby is not simply a dramatization of American dream of the Zazz Age but rather a tragedy representing human defeat of innocence and the purity of dream in the corrupt society. But the defeat of Gatsby is not merely a death. The death of Gatsby means the martyrdom of dream pursuer in a sense and in another it is a good model of tragic defeat arousing our pathetic feeling for the pure which is dying out of the materialized society./ The Great Gatsby is a systematical exploration of the American dream as it exists in a corrupt period and it is an attempt to determine that concealed boundary that divides the reality from the illusions.   더덕　[藥用植物] : 보문면 기곡2리(基谷二里) 권오덕 등 8명이 산간지대에서만 자생하는 야생 더덕을 3년 만에 인공 재배하는데 성공하였다. 더덕은 약재로는 물론 건강 식품이다. 1998년8월 처음으로 2년생 10톤을 생산하였다.

  더덕　[特産品] : 예천군의 산지에 자생하는 다년생 초본으로, 학명은 Codonosis lanceolata Benth et Hook이고, 도라지과에 속한다. 식용, 약용으로 쓰인다. 1) 보문면 기곡2리 권오덕 등 8명이 산간지대에서만 자생하는 야생을 인공 재배하는데 3년 만에 성공한 특산품으로, 약제로는 물론 건강식품으로 수요가 증가하고 있어 새로운 소득 품목으로 대도시 소비가들의 인기가 높다. 그들은 지역 특성에 맞는 새로운 작목으로 야생 더덕이 적합하다고 판단, 야생 더덕을 인공 재배키로 하고 수십 년 간의 도라지 재배 기술과 경험을 토대로 3년 만에 야생 더덕 재배에 성공, 1998년 8월 처음으로 3천 평에서 2년생 10톤을 생산해 5천여 만 원의 소득을 기대하고 있다. 그들은, "그러나 출하기의 야생 더덕 집중 출하로 인한 가격 하락을 막기 위해선 저온창고 건립이 시급하다."며, "저온 창고를 건립, 장기 저장으로 제값을 받을 수 있도록 유통에도 마음을 쓰겠다."라고 말했다(매일신문 1998.8.10). 2) 보문면 기곡리 기곡더덕작목반에서 생산하는 예천 학가산 더덕으로, 학가산 주변 구릉지의 더덕 재배에 적합한 토질에서 생산하여 맛과 향이 뛰어나며, 무공해 지역에서 유기질 비료와 퇴비만을 사용하여 생산하므로 자연산 더덕과 유사하다. 약효가 가장 많은 시기에 수확하여 현대식 저장 시설에서 보관하므로 영양분의 손실이 거의 없는 상태로 구입할 수 있다. [더덕의 효용] : 사포닌(saponin), 이눌린(inulin), 피토드린(phytoderin), 레오이친(leoith- in), 펜토산(pentosan) 등의 약효 성분이 들어있어서 한방에서는 최유(催乳), 두통, 해독에 쓰고 건강식 채소로도 수요가 늘고 있다. 사포닌 성분을 함유하고 있는 인과 티아민, 리보플라빈, 단백질, 지질, 당류 등 성분을 많이 함유하고 있어 암 예방과 성인병 예방 효과가 있으며 거담제, 해소, 해열, 해독제, 장기능 장애 제거, 강장 보호에 탁월하며 변비의 예방 및 치료에 효능이 있는 것으로 밝혀져 약용을 겸한 건강식품으로 매우 인기가 높다. [더덕의 성분] : 단백질 2.3g, 탄수화물(당질) 4.5g, 탄수화물(섬유질) 6.4g, 무기질(철분) 2.1mg, 인 121mg, 비타민(B1) 1.12mg, 비타민(B2) 0.22mg, 니아닌 0.8mg이다. 즉 단백질, 당질, 섬유질, 무기질을 다량으로 함유하고 있으며, 비타민 B1B2도 많다.(每日新聞 1998.8.10, 인터넷 DreamWIZ 2001)

  더덕 캐기 체험행사 개최(더덕 캐기 體驗行事 開催) [記事] : 예천군은 2000년도부터 활발한 농특산물 직거래 활동을 통해 지역 농가의 소득 증대에 많은 도움을 주고 친분을 맺고 있는 서울 송파구 송파1동 부녀회원 40명을 초청해 2003년 11월 6일 더덕캐기 체험 행사를 용문 선리 일대에서 개최했다. 이 날 송파1동 부녀회원들은 오전 11시 예천군청에 도착해 김수남 군수 및 관계자들과 인사를 나누고 감사패 전달 및 군정에 대한 설명과 비디오 시청을 한 뒤 용문면 선리 현지로 이동해 더덕 캐기 체험 행사에 참여했다. 이 번 행사는 그 동안 예천군의 수도권 지역민에 대한 농·특산물 직판 활동 과정에서 송파1동 부녀회원들이 손수 판매 활동과 홍보 활동에 적극적인 도움을 주고 예천 농·특산물에 대한 남다른 애착심과 신뢰로 판매 효과를 올리는데 크게 기여한 관계로 앞으로 더욱 돈독한 친분 관계를 유지하고 교류 행사를 가짐으로써 상호 간 신뢰와 협조의 관계를 활성화해 나가기 위해 마련된 것이다. 또한 이러한 교류 행사를 통해 예천 농·특산물에 대한 도시 지역 저변 확대에 많은 도움을 주는 좋은 계기가 될 것으로 보인다.(醴泉新聞 2003.11.14)

  더득 할머니 묘　[무덤] : 예천읍 생천2리(生川二里) 못골 뒤에 있는 무덤으로, 보통 묘보다 3배 정도 크다.

  더듬더듬 찾기　[놀이] : 1) 예천군에서 행해지는 놀이로, 잡동사니, 눈가리개를 준비한다. ▶ 2개 팀으로 나눈다. 각종 물건을 두 개씩 준비하여 양쪽으로 똑같이 나누어 놓는다. 물건 앞에 각 팀의 대표를 뽑아 눈을 가리고 앉힌다. 리더는 눈이 확실하게 가려진 것을 확인하고 물건 이름을 한 번에 한 가지씩 부른다. 눈을 가린 사람은 리더가 말한 물건을 손으로 더듬어서 빨리 찾아내어 높이 든다. 정확하게 찾아 빨리 손을 드는 사람이 이긴다. ▶ 틀리게 찾아 들면 감점 처리를 하고, 날카로운 물건들은 상처가 날 우려가 있으므로 물건을 선택할 때 신중을 기한다. 2) 예천군에서 행해지는 놀이로, 눈가리개를 준비한다. ▶ 물건이 없는 상태에서 "더듬더듬 찾기 1)"의 방법으로 준비한다. 눈을 가린 선수들은 시작 소리에 물건을 찾는 대신 리더가 호명한 사람을 찾는다. 눈을 가린 채 얼굴, 체격 등을 손으로 더듬으면서 찾도록 한다. ▶ 눈을 가린 사람이 남자이면 여자를 찾게 하고, 눈을 가린 사람이 여자이면 남자를 찾게 한다.(인터넷 netian 2002)
